About

The Imperial Dollar Project is a digital history initiative aimed using the power of new media to make sense of the complexity that is American money. United States currency has a long and often-misunderstood past; one that’s impossible to decipher through any single lens–from economics, to the advances by the “history of capitalism,” to even the (literally) ancient discipline of numismatics.

The goal of this on-going project is to become a hub for an array of digital content on the story of American money, from blog posts to original video profiles. By removing the imaginary wall between “academic” material and “popular history”–which has left important questions ignored or incompletely answered–the Imperial Dollar Project seeks to bring a more complete picture of United States money to anyone interested in our nation’s currency.
